Baska is located on the southern side of the island beneath the hill Treskavac in a wonderful cove surrounded by green nature. It is a city of vivid past and according to some findings it was inhabited in pre history. Today it is known by one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic. In the backcountry of Baska in Jurandvor, in the church of St. Lucy the oldest written document in Croatian language was found - Bascanska ploca. It is a carved stone tablet from the 12th century and in its miniature form can be an excellent souvenir. Other churches and chapels in centre stand as proof of the rich historic heritage. During the “Baska cultural summer” that takes place from July till November you can be a part of old local traditional customs such as the Baska weeding or attend other cultural performances. As in most settlements on Krk, in Baska you can also experience a real Mediterranean atmosphere by strolling down the narrow stone alleys between old houses. But, what will amaze you is Vela plaza, an 1800m long gravely beach in centre that is for years now the proud owner of the blue flag as a confirmation of environment preservation and clean sea. Except for Vela plaza you can find other mostly gravely beaches in the settlement. And if you are an active vacation lover you will have an opportunity to engage in various sports (scuba diving, tennis, ping pong, mountain climbing). In local taverns and restaurants try some of the delicacies of the island cuisine: lamb, shrimps and olive oil and from sweets try presnac (traditional cheese cake). We therefore suggest you visit the restaurants Franica and Francesca. After dining refresh yourself with drinks in one of the cocktail and cafe bars next to the sea. One of the more popular bars is the Porto club. Accommodation in Baska you can find in private apartments and rooms.
